On September 12, an international roundtable discussion on the topic "Public of BRICS for Sovereign Development" was held in the Presence Offices of Kazan Kremlin. It was timed to coincide with the upcoming BRICS Summit (Kazan, October 2024). The event was organized by: Kazan Innovative University named after V.G. Timiryasov, the Public Chamber of the Republic of Tatarstan, Rossotrudnichestvo, and the Russian Political Science journal. The roundtable brought together a wide range of participants, including representatives of the public, scientists, religious and political figures, as well as foreign guests from the BRICS countries - China, India, Iran, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Ethiopia.
The relevance of the round table is related to the fact that the focus on sovereign development and national-state interests is not only a common value of the countries that are part of the BRICS association, but is also becoming an important basis for the formation of a new multipolar world. Russia invariably acts as a conceptual leader in the formation of a new world order. The initial ideological guideline for solving the task at hand was a series of speeches by our national leader - Russian President V.V. Putin at the Valdai Discussion Club.
Public support is a necessary condition for the establishment of a new world order based on sovereign development, taking into account the interests of countries and peoples. Today, when many regions of the world are blazing with crisis and military conflicts, solidarity and mutual support of active and responsible representatives of the public are so important. The international round table was aimed at forming an understanding among the public of the community countries of the need to support the sovereign development of their own countries, solidarity in overcoming the influence of adherents of the unipolar world - an obstacle to successful national development and a threat to domestic political stability.
A number of government and public figures sent greetings to the organizers and participants of the round table. In her speech, Zilya Valeeva, Chairperson of the Public Chamber of the Republic of Tatarstan, noted the importance of public support for the sustainable development of the BRICS countries:
"The formation and effective work of BRICS is impossible without the support of citizens of the participating countries. After all, BRICS can soon unite the absolute majority of the planet's inhabitants, and we, representatives of different countries, nationalities and religions, must join forces to improve this world and our lives."
Viktor Demidov, Chief Federal Inspector for the Republic of Tatarstan, conveyed greetings from the Administration of the President of the Russian Federation, emphasizing the importance of international cooperation:
“Holding an international round table on the eve of the BRICS summit is a significant event aimed at uniting the progressive public of the community countries based on respect for historically established national and religious traditions and interests. More and more states are currently striving to strengthen sovereignty, self-sufficiency, national and cultural identity.”
Dmitry Polikanov, Deputy Head of Rossotrudnichestvo, conveyed greetings from the head of Rossotrudnichestvo:
“Today's meeting is a vivid example of an initiative in the field of international humanitarian cooperation. This is an opportunity for an open, useful discussion on the most important areas of work that were outlined by the past BRICS summits.”

Diskin, member of the Council under the President of the Russian Federation for Interethnic Relations, deputy director of the Institute of Ethnology and Anthropology of the Russian Academy of Sciences, First Deputy Chairman of the Council of the Assembly of the Peoples of Russia V.Yu. The round table was moderated by the First Vice-Rector of KIU Igor Bikeev and the Advisor to the Rector of KIU on Strategic Initiatives Oleg Agapov.
The forum program reflected the intended goals. Thus, within the framework of the first session "The concept of sovereignty in a multipolar world as a guideline and resource for the development of civil society in the BRICS countries", the participants discussed the role and participation of the public in successful development, in the formation of a multipolar world.
The second session "Development of interethnic and interreligious relations in a multipolar world: the BRICS model" was focused on discussing the practices of inter-civilizational interaction of the BRICS countries, building equal and mutually respectful international relations based on historical and cultural heritage, and developing interethnic and interreligious relations.
The third session became the center of discussion of the resolution of the round table addressed to the participants of the BRICS Summit in October 2024 in Kazan.
The result of the joint work of the round table participants was a resolution - an appeal to the heads of state participating in the Summit to consider public support for sovereign development as a necessary condition for the effective activities of the Community.
The development of public solidarity between the peoples of our countries requires the creation of a permanent platform, so it was proposed to establish the Kazan International Forum "Public of BRICS for Sovereign Development".
One of the significant events was the presentation of the book "BRICS: Russian View", the subtitle of which is "Prolegomena to the Scientific Study of the BRICS Phenomenon". The authors of the book were researchers from the HSE and KIU, including Iosif Diskin, Oleg Agapov and Igor Bikeev. The book offers a new vision of interstate cooperation and the formation of a new scientific discipline - "BRICSology".
The International Roundtable "Public of BRICS for Sovereign Development" became a significant platform for discussing the role of the public in supporting the sovereignty of the BRICS countries and strengthening the multipolar world. The event brought together leading experts and public figures, laying the foundation for further cooperation and interaction between the countries of the association.
